11 MILES

Grinding out of Stockton Springs
11 miles to Winterport
Climbing out of the machine
Into the towering Father's heart
Looking back through mirror view
Lost in oceanic blue
All I was suppose to be on that God forsaking island

chorus

    Rising up breaking the rim
    Mountain light splash, tumbling in
    Surreal hues and textures seem
    From adolescent canvastries
    Trestled gorges descends the brook
    To marshes nestling granite bookeneds
    Hemming humble river word
The sound of blood, so seldom heard

Listen, hush, red river rush
What means the soul is in the blood?
11 miles to Winterport
From scarlet paths comes the report
Look ahead, trying to peer
What will I be, 11 years
Lantern oil, winter's breath
Scripture flickers in the flame

chorus

Where autumn birch greet October snows
The army of God gathers and grows
And the buck's eye sees and the falcon knows
In the blood of all bestowed

Idling down to Winterport
Back into the machine
Welcome home, put up your feet
11 years, we'll see what's a dream

BABEUF'S HAPPY DAY

Rocks and bricks and barricades
Dash the vaunted colonnades
Forever now to be obscene
Heads fall like hail, the guillotine

chorus

Expropriate ! Expropriate !

Blood drenched streets of gay Paris
Show the world how to be free
Dangling naked from the trees
The throat-slit bloated bishopry

chorus

Expropriate ! Expropriate !

and all the world is a mistake
and all the world must we remake
Nature Raw is Liberty
The State of Full Equality
and all the world has gone awry
and most of you will have to die
The Illuminated understand
Its for the Brotherhood of Man

The end will justify the means
So drown the babes...Redeem ! Redeem !
Nature groans to be released
The time has come to feast the beast

chorus

Expropriate ! Expropriate !

"The Great Day of the People" 's come
La dee da and La dee dumb
Workers of the world unite
Destroy the means of your own life.....stupid

BABEUF TAKES AN ENEMA

The river wakes, lifts its mist coverlet
White light pours down the mountain pine tops
Mingles then shimmers the distant shore
Finally laps against the docks of the cove

The baker's bread perfumes the salted air
of the village streets and cottages
Mothers kiss fathers godspeed and good day
As fishing boats groan to go beyond the bay

chorus

Such a lovely day for an enema
Such a lovely day for an enema

The chiming bell vibrates the all
Dew streams off the soccer ball
and explodes into the blue crystal sky
A seagull squawks, a baby cries

Cry Cry Cry, oh mild child
Life's canvas awaits the touch of your allotted time
Crimson, umber, vermillion, lime
From the brushes of your illumined mind

chorus

Such a lovely day for an enema
Such a lovely day for an enema

I can see it now, I was a bit uptight
Something in there wasn't right
Nature's Way sure is OKay son
Has it's own laws of expropriation

Whoa, Egad ! All this shit smells like hate
The Mean will take it in the end, it seems...I can relate

WALLY KLUMP
John and Ruth left New Mexico, left the Black Mongollon
To drive their homestead stakes in the Two Heads Mountain
Built a four room house, raised their kids midst the grazing cows And a strange mirage of swirl hay and simmering heat

John and Ruth became a clan; grandkids, cows and desert sands
Running four and 30 brands high and free
They licked their wounds, they broke their backs
By the grace of God nothing lacked
In the Two Heads Mountain roaming free

Now Wally Klump became a man, returned his folks to the desert sands
He didn't have much time to think about what Congress said
15 hours worl a day seemed to him the proper way to live
Afterall its all God endowed...so the teaching said

Wally dared to make a stand, living on desired land
That bureaucratic thieves had claimed for themselves
He now marks the age of 70 in the Federal penitentiary
holding tight to what the teaching said

We hold these truths to be self evident
That all men are created equal
Endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights
Among these rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness

STEEL ON STEEL
Wheels and wheels of steel on steel
Need to tell you how I feel
Hours and hours by trees and fields
Thought that we had something real

Home I hoped to find with you
Hoped that I would find you true
This time I didn't mark my trail
Thought for sure you wouldn't fail

Steel on steel, heart to heart
No, I'm not trying to be smart
Trees and fields all charred and marred
Thought for sure we'd never part

Home I hoped to find someday
Hoped that I with you would stay
But today I come to find
These thoughts of mine are out of line

Heart to heart, let's cut the shit
There's something that I must admit
Charred and marred, my sould is scarred
If you couldn't heal, why the hell you ever start?

Home I hoped to find today
Hoped my hope you wouldn't betray
Rails of steel are all that mark my way
Where is home now, I cannot say

TRICK BRAIN
I got me a trick brain, excuse me darling dear
I got me a trick brain, I fear, well, I fear
I fear, I fear what I cannot hear
What I cannot hear going on in there

I got me a trick brain, excuse me dear Lord
I got me a trick brain, got to slow down this gourd
This gourd, this gourd, I got to slow down dear Lord
So I can hear in there what my trick brain declares

I got me a trick brain, give me a drink Charlie
Give me that drink, I got to slow down to think
To think, to think what my trick brain declares
The things that it hides from me unawares

I got me a trick brain, no I'm not insane
Said my brain was tricky, my brain is mundane
Mundane, mundane, my brain is just plain
Its temporal, its twisted, it isn't insane

Got me a trick brain, so what do you think Charlie?
I think you need a drink Charlie, yes, you need a drink
A drink, a drink, a time of introspection
Because some of the things we think Charlie are quite like infections

THE GREEN MUMMY
I was raoming through the desert, searching for the Green Mummy
Eating fried iguana and a bowl of hummus
Drinking black coffee from a cup carved of pumice
Thinking to myself all along, "Man, you sure drink way too much coffee".

Now, I'm not a bright man, I heard somebody say
Then I hear somebody else say it, again and again
He say, "Hey man, what you trying to prove? Eating a bunch of junk like that, and roaming like a lune, in the light of the moon?"

And I say, "I ain't proving nothing, and the moon ain't out. Just searching for the Green Mummy is all, with all this roaming about. That Green Mummy stole my wife, that Green Mummy ate my mare. That Green Mummy's bumming me out, that Mummy just ain't fair."

One night we were dancing
Swaying soft and slow
To the screetch of the owl
And the coyote moans
Just minding our business
When that Mummy cut on in
Gobbled up my horse
And guzzled down my gin

I sat a while in the saddle, Staring at the empty bottle
I was feeling a bit rattled. Hey, you know my horse was mottled?
Then I came to my senses, and went to saying "Hey"
That old Green Mummy had dragged my wife away, too

That was seven years ago, that's how long I've roamed
Searching high and low, under every rock and every hole
Sometimes in the distance I can hear that Mummy gloat
He'll neigh just like my horse, just to get my goat

Now I ain't a bright man
But there's one thing I know for sure
If there's one thing I won't do without
It's my sweet Eleanor

AURORA BOREALIS
Aurora Borealis, canopy sublime
Adorns like a palace the crisp northern November sky

Come forth from our hovels, our spirits emerge
Beneath shimmered cover, life's grateful lovers converge

Spirit in spirit, immersed in a chime
A rhyme that does merit a fleet moment of time

Aurora Borealis, its he who seeks that does find
The gate of the palace is only found by a child's eyes

ALBERTA JANE
Hello, its me again, Alberta Jane
I'm here at your beside breathing your pain
Have some pink roses, I'll place one in your hair
Sleep deep and peaceful, I'm just here for prayer

I'll be very quiet, whispering low
My prayer like a soft silken ribbon will flow
From a sense of eternity hidden within
A place in my heart where we'll sure meet again

chorus

Can you hear me Lord, can you hear me?
Though the question is foolish I must ask it again
Can you hear me
You know I'm believing
But please help my unbelief

It will flow like a ribbon, fly like a dove
From the depths of this vessel to cesetials above
A prayerful vibration, a courier unseen
By the eye of the sentry, or the scent of the keen

It will race past the watchman at the river ford post
And rise above all his devilish hosts
Collapse and be lifted by Gabriel's hands
And carried to the throneroom of the Son of Man

chorus

Its me again Lord, Alberta Jane
Give me a moment and a cup of rain
I need you more than ever before
Tell me my Lord, is it time for the cure

GOOD AND EVIL
A quarter to four
You're on the floor
It's alright, it will be alright
You're on the floor
You want some more
It's alright, it will be alright

chorus

It's a wicked place
You choose your own disgrace
It's alright, it will be alright
Go back, and then
Yes, you can start again
It's alright, it will be alright

Another line
Destroy your mind
It's alright, it will be alright
Destroy your mind
If you think that's fine
It's alright, it will be alright

chorus

You take the fruit from the tree
It's what was always meant to be
You take the fruit from the tree
It's what was always meant to be

Quarter to four
You're on the floor
It's alright, it will be alright
You're on the floor
You want some more
It's alright, it will be alright

LIBERTY AND EQUALITY

Liberty and Equality walk into a bar
For a basket of chips and a cool heady jar
One with the wages earned from mixing cement
The other with the remnants of his welfare check
Says Liberty to Equality, his fair weather friend
"Now don't you think you'll be hitting me up again"
Says Equality to Liberty, "What the hell is that suppose to mean?"

chorus

And all was fine, and all was chummy
Just as long as Equality had a bit of money
Kept his crap under wraps like a true demagogue
Till the moment of truth when he'd shine like a light in the fog

Liberty and Equality slide up a stool
Charlie the tender is riding the mule
With a firm handshake, glides Liberty his heady jar
Flicks a coaster at Equality and says,
"How you doing thar kid?"
Equality adjusts his coaster, doesn't say a thin
Except for, "Well, what do you think"
Charlie stares and thinks a sec, then rides on past
Equality chews a pretzel thinking, "Jez, what an ass"

chorus

Liberty got foggy, decides to call it a night
Leaves a pile of gratuities and a near full pint
Equality seizes the moment to claim his "rights"
What was right was right, and surely worth the fight
Slips into his pocket a buck or two
Clasps his empty hand around the brew
But Charlie the tender wasn't lost in the mist
Says Charlie to Equality, "So, we're going to have some more of this, hey?"

chorus

Says Equality to Charlie, "Now see here my brother"
Why don't you let the people just love each other"
Liberty and me is like water and a fish"
"Whatever I do is just what Liberty would wish"
Says Charlie to Equality, "Ah, you're a thieving punk"
"This here establishment ain't buying your junk"
"Now Justice here is going to inflict some pain"
And out goes Equality bouncing out into the fog and the rain

chorus

Now the moral of this story is the God awful truth
Liberty and Equality without Justice his due
Is to the harm of Charlie and you, you got to believe
As for Equality and Love....well, they're in different leagues

LAND OF NOD
What have you done Cain?
You killed your brother
Your mother and father's beloved son
And all the blood that went down, screaming into the ground
You knew it would be found

What have you done Cain?
"Well, I don't really know,
And I guess I don't really care
Got to find me a river, wash this blood from my hair
And get the hell out of here"

I'm so agitated
So damn annoyed
Just can't sit still, just can't avoid it
In this Land of Nod there is no God
But the voice of Abel crying in the wind

A MOTHER'S PRAYER

Once upon a September, playing with my son
Basking in the heaven's waning summer warmth
His smiling eyes reflecting the shimmered ripples of the bay
Took his innocent hand in mine and dashed into the day

Returning from our venture, walking through the door
"Did you hear, do you know?"...my heart fell to the floor
Teeming glass and metal, explosions in the sky
Plunging helpless bodies, I turned away and cried

chorus

I cried for the victims as though they were my own
I cried for their families' agonizing souls
I cried for my country, the red, white, and blue
I cried for the world, didn't you?

Shock, anger, desperation...invading soldiers in my head
Pain and devastation, thousands torn and dead
What would we do, who would we become in coming days?
The same He is tomorrow as he is today

chorus

Bruised and bleeding courage, barely with a breath
Raced into the maelstrom, into the face of death
The same He is tomorrow as he is today
I took his innocent hand in mine and bowed our heads and prayed

SISTER

Let's raise a glass, let's have a toast
To the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
Our sister's come unto the throne
And all along thought she was alone

Year by year, and step by step by step
Her course has turned, and returned again
Tear by tear by tear, through pounding rain
Surmounting her own exquisite pains

And no one here can precisely say
Just who and what she is today

All you've seen and all you've heard
Is meaningless...well, that is absurd
And all he was that was his past
Has led you two to this common task

And no one here can precisely say
Just who and what they are today

As I had once said before
Love is a mountain you can't implore
To treat you nice, to be just kind
But a height unto which you climb

And no one here can precisely say
Just who and where they are today
